The 14th MLAIC Pacific Zone
Championships were held at the North-South Skirmish Association home
range, Fort Shenandoah, and the "Conservation Club" in Winchester, Virginia. The match was
held
the week preceding the Labor Day Holiday, Monday, August 29, 2011 through September 3, 2011.
The countries of the United States, Canada and Japan competed head to head, with New Zealand and Australia sending scores after firing a postal match. With 65 competitors firing over 197 separate targets, the match staff decided to shift the 30 pistol matches from Thursday to Wednesday afternoon. This shift allowed additional time between matches for competitors. After all competition was completed, Tim Scanlan, N-SSA property manager, brought one mortar and two cannons to the main range to give the competitors a live fire demonstration. The Canadian, Japanese and Australian team members eagerly participated in loading and firing the artillery pieces. Additionally, two pigeon boards at 50 yards were set up to allow all competitors a chance to shoot an N-SSA-style team event. N-SSA members of the U.S. team provided skirmish firearms and the appropriate leather accoutrements for all to try their hand at skirmishing.
