
U.S. Wins Gold at 24th MLAIC Championships

The dichotomies of old and modern Europe were on display in Portuagal, where the people were unerringly friendly, the gastronomic thrills abundant and the tender Portuguese wines a delight to the palate.
But not to be outdone by local sights and sounds was the competition at the 24th MLAIC World Muzzle Loading Championship held near Barcelos at the Fervenca Shooting Complex, A privately owned and operated range on the personal estate of a local businessman, this modern and all-encompassing complex is an excellent facility which comfortably accommodated all of the MLAIC short range shooting disciplines.
Representing the United States at the competition were twenty-eight men and women. From among these team members one gold medal, one silver medal and one bronze medal was earned for individual scores, plus one silver and two bronze team awards.
Betty Peloquin brought home the gold for the United States with her original Whitworth in the Walyrie-Original with a score of 95.
Shannon Boyce took home a silver medal in Whitworth-Relica with a score of 99. Her
nearly perfect score was edged out by another 99 fired by a South African competitor. Tim Thorne received a bronze medal in his first world competition with his original Harper's Ferry flintlock and a score of 92.
Larry Brockmiller, Tim Thorne and Tom Warabak
netted a silver medal in the Pauly team competition. The Pauly team event is a team of three shooters with original percussion muskets. The United States also won bronze in the Nobunaga, with Donna Crawford, Tom Warabak and Bob Peloquin shooting thier original Tanegashima matchlocks. Team USA won bronze in the coveted Grand Prix de Marseilles which combines the scores from Minie Original and Miquelet Original. Frank Meyer, Tom Warabak, Larry Brockmiller and Tim Thorne comprised the team.
